MotiveWave proxy setup

The short answer

MotiveWave has a proxy screen at Configure → Proxy Settings. The one article its maker wrote describes it as an HTTP proxy setting for corporate firewalls. MotiveWave’s documentation doesn’t say which connections use it, or that it offers SOCKS5 or a login.

Where is the proxy setting in MotiveWave?

Open Configure → Proxy Settings in the console menu. On the startup screen, choose Options → Proxy Settings instead. The article gives one path and names no difference between Windows, macOS and Linux.

MotiveWave’s documentation for the general settings dialog, Configure → Settings, lists no proxy option.

What does MotiveWave say the setting is for?

The article says a home user doesn’t need it. Behind a corporate firewall, it says, you may need to give HTTP proxy settings so MotiveWave can reach the internet.

It doesn’t say that the setting covers your broker or data-feed connection. It doesn’t say that the screen offers SOCKS5, or a login and password.

  • Where. Configure → Proxy Settings, or Options → Proxy Settings on the startup screen.
  • What for. Reaching the internet from behind a corporate firewall.
  • Which types. Only HTTP is mentioned.
  • Login and password. Not documented.
  • Which connections follow it, and whether a restart is needed. Not stated.
  • Which systems run MotiveWave. Windows 10 or higher, macOS 13 or higher, and Linux (Ubuntu and Debian-based). All are 64-bit, says the 2026 installation guide.

Can MotiveWave connect through Traders Proxy at all?

Traders Proxy takes HTTP or SOCKS5 with a login and password. MotiveWave’s article confirms only the HTTP part, so open the screen and see whether it has login fields.

MotiveWave reaches brokers and data feeds through gateways such as Rithmic and CQG. It doesn’t say whether those connections follow the proxy setting.

Its connections page doesn’t list MetaTrader. For a MetaTrader 4 (MT4) or MetaTrader 5 (MT5) account, use the MetaTrader terminal and its own guide instead.

How do you try it?

Warning. Check your broker’s terms

If your broker prohibits proxies, don’t use one. Traders Proxy doesn’t change what your broker allows.

Try the proxy in MotiveWave in five steps

  1. 01

    Get your values

In your dashboard’s Connect section, pick the server nearest you. Then open Your values for your platform, choose the Other tab, pick HTTP and copy the four values. HTTP is the only type MotiveWave’s article mentions.

MotiveWave doesn’t say which connections use the setting, so we make no claim about your broker’s city on MotiveWave.

  2. 02

    Open the proxy screen

    Choose Configure → Proxy Settings.

  3. 03

    Type your values

Type the server and port, and choose HTTP if the screen asks for a type. Add your login and password if it has fields for them.

If the screen has no login fields, Traders Proxy can’t be used here.

  4. 04

    Connect and look

Connect your broker or data connection in MotiveWave and see whether it comes up.

That shows the connection works. It doesn’t show that the connection used the proxy.

  5. 05

    Check your dashboard

Open your dashboard while MotiveWave is connected. It shows your connected devices, live.

If the list stays empty, MotiveWave’s connection isn’t using the proxy, and Traders Proxy won’t help there.

On MotiveWave, we claim nothing about disconnects or fills.

MotiveWave doesn’t say which connections the setting covers. So we can’t say that only your trading connection goes through Traders Proxy.

We make no claim about disconnects or fills.

Ping is the time data takes to go there and back. We don’t promise lower ping. Distance sets the minimum. No proxy can move your broker closer.

MotiveWave’s phone apps list CQG and Rithmic as their supported connections. Its page shows no proxy setting for them. Our Android setup is tested with MT4 and MT5 only, so we give no phone steps.

Frequently asked questions

Which proxy types does MotiveWave accept?

MotiveWave’s documentation doesn’t say. The only article we found mentions HTTP proxy settings. Open Configure → Proxy Settings and see what your version offers.

Is the setting the same on a Mac?

MotiveWave’s article gives one path and names no difference between systems. Its installation guide lists macOS 13 or higher, and we found no steps specific to a Mac.

Will my broker’s orders go through the proxy?

MotiveWave doesn’t say whether broker and data-feed connections follow the setting. Your dashboard shows whether they do. A connected device appears while MotiveWave is connected.

Can I use MotiveWave with an MT4 or MT5 broker?

MotiveWave’s connections page doesn’t list MetaTrader. For an MT4 or MT5 account, use the MetaTrader terminal and its own proxy setting.

What if MotiveWave won’t connect with the proxy on?

Clear the proxy fields and confirm MotiveWave connects without Traders Proxy. Then type the values again, and check that the login and password are your Traders Proxy ones.

Will my broker mind?

Check your broker’s terms. If your broker prohibits proxies, don’t use one. Traders Proxy doesn’t change what your broker allows.

MetaTrader 4 & 5Solves

Generic or free proxies fail MetaTrader's proxy Test button

“I keep getting the message "Proxy test failed" no matter what proxy settings I try to set.”

How our system handles it. Use SOCKS5 or HTTP, whichever your platform offers. Enter our server, login and password in MetaTrader’s own Proxy window.

  • Built-in SOCKS5 loginPrimary
  • Built-in HTTP proxy loginSupporting

Where it stops. MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 support SOCKS5 and HTTP (not SOCKS4). A passing Test confirms the route reaches our server.

MetaTrader 4 & 5Solves

MetaTrader 5 will not use a proxy running on the same computer

“that proxy setting is working on MT4, so the problem is from MT5 not proxy”

How our system handles it. You don't need a tunnel app on your computer. Your platform connects to our server through its own Proxy setting.

  • Own separate connection to your brokerPrimary
  • Built-in SOCKS5 loginPrimary

Where it stops. Your platform connects through its built-in Proxy window, with no extra app to install. Some MetaTrader 5 builds have separate proxy-window bugs.

MetaTrader 4 & 5Not a proxy problem

The platform's proxy setting does not cover everything (WebRequest, MQL5.community, Market)

“Using a SOCKS proxy in a browser, I can access the site without issues. Using the same proxy in the terminal, I still can't log in.”

Why a proxy does not change this. Only the trading app you set up uses Traders Proxy. Everything else stays on your normal internet.

  • Only the app you set up is routedBoundary

Where it stops. Only the trading app you set up uses Traders Proxy. Expert Advisor web calls, custom DLLs and Market downloads may still use your normal internet.

MetaTrader 4 & 5When not to use a proxy

Shared server address where a broker block affects every account on that server

“I have a small VPS service in Thailand, where I share IP internet to save costs. Suddenly, all MT4 in the node started showing a "connection failed" error.”

Why a proxy can backfire here. Your broker sees one steady address, our server’s, shared by people on a Traders Proxy plan in that city.

  • One steady addressBoundary
  • City switchingSupporting

Where it stops. Our server address is shared by people on a Traders Proxy plan in that city. Switch city in your dashboard if a broker blocks that address.
