Optuma proxy setup guide for desktop traders
The short answer
Optuma features a built-in proxy setting directly on its login screen. Click Server Settings, tick Use Proxy Server, enter your four values, and log in as normal. Local desktop execution keeps quantitative formulas running at full processor speed without remote desktop lag.
Why native Optuma charts beat remote desktop streaming
Optuma performs intensive mathematical calculations for market geometry, astronomical cycles, and multi-factor quantitative models. Running Optuma natively on your local machine leverages your physical CPU and GPU at full performance.
Remote desktops compress your screen into a laggy video feed. Mouse movement drags, formulas stutter during recalculation, and multi-monitor layouts break across remote sessions.
Traders Proxy routes data directly through an optimised proxy tunnel. Your workstation retains responsive local rendering while our server ensures uninterrupted data delivery.
How to set up your proxy in Optuma
Traders Proxy works with any trading platform that includes native proxy support. Optuma includes a built-in proxy configuration dialog directly on its startup login screen.
We run Optuma through Traders Proxy ourselves using an HTTP connection. The setting is entered once on the initial login screen before opening your workbooks.
Warning. Check your broker’s terms
If your broker or data provider prohibits proxies, do not use one. Traders Proxy does not alter provider rules.
Optuma proxy setup in six steps

Select your nearest server
In your dashboard Connect tab, pick the server location nearest your trading desk from our locations list. This establishes the Server address.
If you need an active plan, choose your plan before beginning configuration.
- 02
Copy your four values
In your dashboard, open Your values and choose the Other tab. Select the
HTTPprotocol option, then copy the Server, Port, Login, and Password.Your proxy password is generated specifically for network routing. It is separate from the password you use to sign in to our website.
- 03
Open the login screen
Launch Optuma on your desktop. On the startup login window, click Server Settings located near the bottom.
- 04
Enable the proxy option
Tick the checkbox labelled Use Proxy Server. The connection credential fields will appear immediately.

Use the
HTTPport from your dashboard. Optuma uses standard web proxy protocols for account authentication and data server communication. - 06
Click Back and log in
Click Back to return to the primary login window, then log in to Optuma normally. The software will connect through your designated proxy server.
Confirm Optuma connects before you begin analysis
A successful login and loading charts confirm that Optuma has established a connection through your proxy configuration.
Close other network tools, then check your Traders Proxy dashboard. An active device count confirms that Optuma traffic is routing through our server.
What Optuma proxy routing covers
The proxy setting lives inside Optuma, so only Optuma traffic uses it. Your other desktop applications continue using your standard internet connection.
- Optuma data servers. Market history, symbol lists, and exchange data downloads from Optuma servers travel through your proxy connection.
- Interactive Brokers connections. Not routed through Optuma. Optuma communicates locally with Trader Workstation on your PC, which manages its own broker connection.
- Third party data feeds. Data vendor plugins maintain independent connections and do not use Optuma's login proxy setting.
- Optuma Web. The browser product is separate from Optuma Desktop and does not use desktop terminal proxy settings.
Optuma provides market analysis and technical charting rather than trade execution. We make no claims regarding order execution or fill speed.
Physical distance determines baseline transmission time. We do not claim lower ping because distance cannot be removed by software.
Troubleshooting common Optuma connection issues
- Cannot locate proxy settings in Optuma menus. The proxy configuration is located solely on the startup login screen under Server Settings. The main application menus do not contain proxy controls.
- Login fails after entering proxy details. Verify each value against your dashboard. Ensure you entered the
HTTPport and your Traders Proxy credentials rather than your Optuma credentials. - Login continues to fail after checking values. Untick Use Proxy Server to confirm your Optuma account status. If direct login works, contact support for configuration assistance.
- Connection fails with proxy disabled. Firewall or security software may block Optuma data ports. Check your security software permissions for Optuma.
- Interactive Brokers data feed disconnects. Ensure Trader Workstation is running before launching Optuma. Optuma connects locally to Trader Workstation over an internal loopback link.
Setup across Windows 10, Windows 11 and Mac
Optuma is designed for 64-bit Windows operating systems. The proxy setup steps are identical across Windows 10 and Windows 11 installations.
Mac users running Optuma inside virtual Windows environments such as Parallels or VMware should configure the proxy directly inside the Windows Optuma login screen.
Frequently asked questions
Does Traders Proxy work with Optuma?
Yes. We use Optuma through Traders Proxy ourselves. Traders Proxy supports any desktop software with proxy capability, and Optuma includes built-in settings on its login window.
Which port does Optuma require?
Use the HTTP port listed on your dashboard Other tab. We configure Optuma as an HTTP proxy because that protocol matches Optuma's server architecture.
Will my trade orders route through the proxy?
No. Optuma places orders only with an Interactive Brokers feed via Trader Workstation. Optuma's proxy setting does not route Trader Workstation traffic.
Is an application restart required after setup?
No restart is required. Click Back after entering your details and log in directly. Restart the application only if an unexpected connection error occurs.
Can Traders Proxy inspect what Optuma sends?
No. We never inspect, log, or record the contents of your data stream. Encrypted connections remain fully encrypted from your desktop to destination servers.

Generic or free proxies fail MetaTrader's proxy Test button
“I keep getting the message "Proxy test failed" no matter what proxy settings I try to set.”
How our system handles it. Use SOCKS5 or HTTP, whichever your platform offers. Enter our server, login and password in MetaTrader’s own Proxy window.

Where it stops. MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 support SOCKS5 and HTTP (not SOCKS4). A passing Test confirms the route reaches our server.
MetaTrader 5 will not use a proxy running on the same computer
“that proxy setting is working on MT4, so the problem is from MT5 not proxy”
How our system handles it. You don't need a tunnel app on your computer. Your platform connects to our server through its own Proxy setting.

Where it stops. Your platform connects through its built-in Proxy window, with no extra app to install. Some MetaTrader 5 builds have separate proxy-window bugs.
The platform's proxy setting does not cover everything (WebRequest, MQL5.community, Market)
“Using a SOCKS proxy in a browser, I can access the site without issues. Using the same proxy in the terminal, I still can't log in.”
Why a proxy does not change this. Only the trading app you set up uses Traders Proxy. Everything else stays on your normal internet.
- Only the app you set up is routedBoundary
Where it stops. Only the trading app you set up uses Traders Proxy. Expert Advisor web calls, custom DLLs and Market downloads may still use your normal internet.
Workplace, library or other managed network lets the web through but not MetaTrader
“I keep getting the message "Proxy test failed" no matter what proxy settings I try to set.”
What our system reduces. If a network blocks your platform's direct connection to your broker, our server can make that connection for you, as long as your network lets you reach our server.

Where it stops. Many workplaces, libraries and campuses allow only web ports or block proxies altogether, and we can't tell in advance. Check your network's rules first, as using a proxy against an employer's policy is your call and risk. The Try plan is the way to test.
