Free vs paid MTProto proxy, what changes

The short answer

A free MTProto proxy is a link posted for anyone to copy. A paid one gives you a link made for your account, on a shared server. What changes is who runs it, who else uses it and what you control.

What separates a free proxy from a paid one? Who runs it, and who else is on it.

A free proxy is a public link. Anyone who finds it connects to the same server, run by whoever posted it. A paid proxy gives you a link made for your account.

Both run on shared servers. Paying changes who runs the server, who else is on it and what you can change. That decides who sees your address, and who fixes it if your channels stop updating.

If the link leaksIt is already publicYou replace your Telegram link in your dashboard

The server is shared either way, so we never call it private.

What can a proxy operator see? Your address, but not your messages.

Telegram says a proxy operator cannot read your messages, because Telegram traffic is encrypted. It also says the operator can record your IP address. That is Telegram’s own statement.

Telegram also says an operator can show a promoted channel in your chat list. With a free link, a stranger chooses that channel, and it sits among your signal channels. Telegram advises using only proxies from a source you trust.

For our own Telegram proxy, we never record what is in your Telegram traffic. We can’t read Telegram’s own encryption either. Our promise never to decrypt does not cover this proxy type, and no one outside us has checked its code yet.

  • A link made for your account. If it leaks, replace it yourself in your dashboard, without waiting on anyone. Changing the server you connect to changes it too.
  • A service that restarts itself if it crashes, so a crash doesn’t wait for someone to notice. A restart drops live connections, and a service that hangs needs a person.
  • Notices about your city and our server there, shown when you open your dashboard. So you can check for a known problem before you troubleshoot. We write them, and there is no email, text message or public status page.
  • A plan you can leave yourself. Cancel renewal in your dashboard, and your service runs to the end of the period you have paid for.

We publish no measurement of Telegram delivery, so we make no speed promise.

AskWhy it mattersOur answer
Who runs it?The operator can see your IP address while you read your signals.Traders Proxy. Who we are.
Whose software is it?Every signal you receive passes through that code.We build our Telegram proxy on the open-source mtg project.
Has anyone checked the code?An outside check tells you more than a promise. Not yet. No one outside Traders Proxy has checked it.
Who else is on the server? They share the server, and its address, with you.Other Traders Proxy customers. It is shared, never private.
Can you replace your link?A leaked link works for whoever holds it.Yes, in your dashboard.
What happens when it fails? If it stops, your channels stop updating until it is fixed or you switch it off.A service that crashes restarts itself. One that hangs needs a person.
Where is the server? It adds one more stop between you and Telegram. On the server you connect to, in the city you pick in your dashboard. Telegram publishes no data-centre locations, so we can’t say how close that is to Telegram.
Can you leave? You should not be tied in.Yes. Cancel renewal in your dashboard.

Should you run your own? Only if you want to be the operator.

Telegram says you are free to run your own proxy. Its proxy page links to the code and setup instructions. Running your own makes you the operator, so the server bill, the updates and any outage are yours.

That suits you if you want a server only you use. Traders Proxy is the other option. A shared server we run, with a link made for your account.

Which Traders Proxy plans include it? The 2-device and 5-device plans.

Telegram’s own proxy type is on the 2-device and 5-device plans, for 1 and 2 Telegram devices. The 1-device plan has the one-tap Telegram link instead, and that link is on every plan. So every plan can bring your signal channels through us.

A backtest never loses a piece of data on the internet, so it does not drop your connection during a news release. In live trading, one lost piece holds up every price update and order behind it. Everything waits while your computer sends it again across the world.

You cannot paste four values into your platform while your terminal is already disconnected in a live trade. Set it up today while the market is calm. Then time it on your own screen during the next release.

Frequently asked questions

Are free MTProto proxies safe?

Any operator can record your IP address, and with a public link you may not know who that is. Telegram advises using only proxies from a source you trust. It says operators cannot read your messages.

Is a paid Telegram proxy only mine?

No, because the server is shared with other Traders Proxy customers even though your link is made for your account. We never call it private. Only running your own proxy gives you a server that only you use.

Does a paid proxy change Telegram’s speed?

We publish no measurement of Telegram delivery, so we make no speed promise either way.

Can I run my own MTProto proxy?

Yes. Telegram says you are free to, and it links its code and setup instructions from its proxy page. You become the operator, with the server bill and any outage.

Can Traders Proxy read my Telegram messages?

We never record what is in your Telegram traffic, and we can’t read Telegram’s own encryption. Telegram says a proxy operator cannot read your messages. No one outside Traders Proxy has checked our Telegram proxy’s code yet, so we add no promise beyond that.

How do I check that a proxy is connected?

Telegram shows a shield icon at the top of your chat list while a proxy is on. Tap it to open the proxy settings, where the saved proxy shows its status.

TelegramReduces one factor

Connecting Telegram when your network blocks direct access

“Russia is reported to be planning a full block of popular messaging app Telegram on April 1, 2026.”

What our system reduces. Telegram in one tap on every plan. Telegram’s own proxy type is included on the 2-device and 5-device plans.

  • Telegram in one tapPrimary

Where it stops. Telegram in one tap on every plan, plus Telegram’s own proxy type on the 2-device and 5-device plans. A network that inspects traffic can still block it.

TelegramNot a proxy problem

MT4/MT5 or cTrader trade alerts and signal bots cannot reach Telegram

“Enable proxy server — allow the use of a proxy server when connecting to the trade server.”

Why a proxy does not change this. Telegram in one tap works in the Telegram app. It does not route your trading robots' messages.

Where it stops. Alert bots and signal copiers make their own web calls. Those calls are not guaranteed to use your platform’s proxy setting.

cTraderWhen not to use a proxy

Firm location rules and copier address checks when using a proxy

“have u used it for prop firms? dont they create issue for different ip address than ur location”

Why a proxy can backfire here. Your broker sees one steady address, our server’s. If your trading firm restricts where you log in from, check its rules first.

Where it stops. Your broker or firm sees our server’s shared address. Check your firm’s rules before connecting, and do not use a proxy if it is forbidden.

Windows VPS & RoutingWhen not to use a proxy

MetaTrader's own proxy setting fails on some builds or setups

“mt5 cannot connect to proxy servers on the pc , it can only connect to remote proxies but when i want to connect to 127.0.0.1 it cannot connect. for some reason it rejects the loopback address”

Why a proxy can backfire here. Use SOCKS5 or HTTP, whichever your platform offers.

  • Built-in SOCKS5 loginBoundary
  • Built-in HTTP proxy loginBoundary

Where it stops. Use the platform's own Test button. If it fails, the fault is in the platform's proxy support. Not SOCKS4. IPv4 only.
