MTProto proxy setup in Telegram

The short answer

For MTProto proxy setup in Telegram, open your dashboard’s Telegram tab and tap Open in Telegram. If the link will not open, enter the server, port and secret by hand. The link works like a password, so never share it.

What do you need first? The right plan, the Telegram app and your dashboard.

  • A 2-device or 5-device plan for the MTProto proxy, which connects 1 or 2 Telegram devices of its own. On the 1-device plan, use the One-tap link instead.
  • Install Telegram on your device. The proxy saves inside that app, so add it on each device you use.
  • Your Traders Proxy dashboard, signed in, because your link and values are there.

Note. This proxy works for Telegram only

Your trading platform keeps its own proxy setting. The MetaTrader 4 (MT4) and MetaTrader 5 (MT5) desktop terminals use the other values from your dashboard. So setting up Telegram doesn’t change your trading connection.

How do I add it with one tap?

Add the proxy from your dashboard

  1. 01

    Open the Telegram tab

Sign in to your dashboard and open Your values for your platform. Choose the Telegram tab, which holds your Telegram link and values.

  2. 02

    Choose Telegram proxy

Pick the Telegram proxy card, which uses a link made for your account. If its status says Setting up, wait about a minute and refresh the page.

If the dashboard says your plan doesn’t include it, choose One-tap link instead. The steps are the same.

  3. 03

    Tap Open in Telegram

Do this on the device that has Telegram. It adds the proxy directly, so you never type the secret. Telegram asks you to confirm before it uses the proxy.

If the link will not open, choose Copy link. On Telegram Desktop, open the proxy settings and choose Add proxy from clipboard. Otherwise add the proxy by hand below.

  4. 04

    Check the shield icon

While a proxy is on, Telegram shows a shield icon at the top of your chat list. Tap it to see your proxy’s status.

Then send yourself a message in Saved Messages, so you know it works before you rely on it for signals.

Use the path for your app. Telegram’s menu names differ between apps, and Telegram Desktop is a different app from Telegram for macOS.

Where the proxy setting is
AppMenu path
AndroidSettings → Data and Storage → Proxy Settings → Add Proxy
iPhoneSettings → Data and Storage → Proxy → Add Proxy
Telegram Desktop on Windows, macOS or LinuxSettings → Advanced → Connection type → Use custom proxy → Add proxy
Telegram for macOS, the separate appSettings → Data and Storage → Use Proxy
Telegram WebNo proxy setting that we could find

From Telegram’s proxy page and app source, checked on 29 September 2026. On Android and iPhone the proxy entry sits at the bottom of the Data and Storage page. Labels can change between versions.

Enter the values by hand

  1. 01

    Open the proxy screen

Use the path in the table for your app.

  2. 02

Add a proxy and choose MTProto

Choose MTProto as the type. On the 1-device plan, choose SOCKS5.

MTProto has no username or password. SOCKS5 takes a username and password, and ours needs them.

  3. 03

Copy the server, port and secret

Read the Server and Port rows under Telegram proxy. Your dashboard doesn’t show the secret alone. Choose Copy link, and copy the value after secret=.

Paste each value, do not retype it. One wrong character stops it connecting. On the 1-device plan, use the Server, Port, Username and Password rows shown for One-tap link.

  4. 04

Save it and switch it on

Save the proxy, then check Telegram is set to use it, because a saved proxy that is off does nothing. In Telegram Desktop, choose Use custom proxy.

What if it will not connect? Work through these checks in order.

  • Copy the server, port and secret again and re-add the proxy. Paste them, do not retype.
  • If you changed the server you connect to, your Telegram link changed too. Remove the old proxy and add the new one.
  • If you replaced your Telegram link, add the new one the same way.
  • If Auto-switch proxies is on, Telegram can move to another saved proxy when the current one disconnects. Keep only ours in the list, so Telegram stays on ours.
  • Leave any use-for-calls switch off, because voice and video calls don’t go through Traders Proxy.
  • Still stuck? Contact us with the app you use and what its proxy screen shows. Never send your link.

Warning. Keep the link private

No. The one-tap SOCKS5 link contains your trading password, and the MTProto link contains your account’s secret. Anyone who holds either can use your connection, so do not share, post or screenshot it.

If the MTProto link leaks, open the Security section of your dashboard and replace it. If the SOCKS5 link leaks, set a new trading password there.

On the 1-device plan, choose One-tap link on the Telegram tab. Your dashboard builds the link on your device with your trading password, and doesn’t send it to us.

Telegram on a phone that is on another network uses your plan’s only device. While it is connected, your platform can’t connect from another network.

Telegram through this link counts toward your allowance, so photos and videos in your channels use your plan’s data.

A backtest never loses a piece of data on the internet, so it does not drop your connection during a news release. In live trading, one lost piece holds up every price update and order behind it. Everything waits while your computer sends it again across the world.

You cannot paste four values into your platform while your terminal is already disconnected in a live trade. Set it up today while the market is calm. Then time it on your own screen during the next release.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything?

No. Telegram has a proxy setting built in on Android, iOS and Telegram Desktop. You add a server and a port, plus a secret for MTProto.

Does it work in Telegram Web?

Telegram Web has no proxy setting that we could find. Use the Android or iOS app, or Telegram Desktop.

Does this proxy work for my trading platform?

No. The setting sits inside Telegram and works for Telegram only. MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 have their own desktop proxy setting, which uses the other values from your dashboard.

Do my proxy settings survive a Telegram reinstall?

Telegram does not say. If the proxy is missing after a reinstall, add it again from your dashboard.

Why did my Telegram link change?

You changed the server you connect to, or replaced your Telegram link. Changing that server changes the Server value, and your Telegram link changes with it, so add the new link.

Can I switch the proxy off?

Yes. Open Telegram’s proxy settings from the shield icon and turn the proxy off. Telegram Desktop calls the choice Disable proxy.

TelegramReduces one factor

Connecting Telegram when your network blocks direct access

“Proxy has to be intimate. It has to be shared within a small group as a family or maybe your college friends.”

What our system reduces. Telegram in one tap on every plan. Telegram’s own proxy type is included on the 2-device and 5-device plans.

  • Telegram in one tapPrimary

Where it stops. Telegram in one tap on every plan, plus Telegram’s own proxy type on the 2-device and 5-device plans. A network that inspects traffic can still block it.

TelegramNot a proxy problem

MT4/MT5 or cTrader trade alerts and signal bots cannot reach Telegram

“I am a member of the private channel, but my bot is not a member.”

Why a proxy does not change this. Telegram in one tap works in the Telegram app. It does not route your trading robots' messages.

Where it stops. Alert bots and signal copiers make their own web calls. Those calls are not guaranteed to use your platform’s proxy setting.

MetaTrader 4 & 5Not a proxy problem

Installer 'Proxy Server' popup and MQL5.community 403 on a VPS or datacentre address

“Using a SOCKS proxy in a browser, I can access the site without issues. Using the same proxy in the terminal, I still can't log in.”

Why a proxy does not change this. Traders Proxy carries your platform's trade-server connection. We don't promise it fixes installer downloads or MQL5.community sign-in.

  • Only the app you set up is routedBoundary

Where it stops. The platform proxy setting applies after MetaTrader is installed. If the installer download is blocked, download the installer another way first.

MetaTrader 4 & 5Not a proxy problem

'Trade context is busy' (error 146), including on manual trades

“Returns true if a thread for trading is occupied by another Expert Advisor, otherwise returns false.”

Why a proxy does not change this. Traders Proxy doesn't change how MetaTrader handles its trade requests.

Where it stops. Trade context is busy is MetaTrader’s own local lock when two scripts place orders at once. A proxy does not change it.
