Exness proxy setup for MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5
The short answer
Your MetaTrader 4 (MT4) or MetaTrader 5 (MT5) terminal can connect to Exness through our server in your broker’s city. To set it up, find your trade server’s name and ask Exness which city it is in. Then pick that city in your dashboard and enter four values in MetaTrader’s proxy setting.
Does Exness allow a proxy on your account? Check before you connect.
Warning. Check the Exness terms first
Read your Exness client terms and account rules before you connect. Traders Proxy doesn’t change what your broker allows. If your broker prohibits proxies, don’t use one.
Exness sees one steady address, our server’s, shared with other Traders Proxy customers. It stays the same on any network you connect from, so changing network doesn’t show Exness a new address. It changes if you change your broker’s city or we replace a server.
Only the app you set up uses Traders Proxy. Everything else stays on your normal internet, so your plan’s data goes on trading.
How do I find my Exness trade server? Its city decides which city you pick.
Our server helps on its connection to your broker, so it needs to be in your trade server’s city. These steps find that city.
Find the server name and its city
- 01
Open the login window
In MetaTrader 4, choose File, then Login. In MetaTrader 5, choose File, then Login to Trade Account.
- 02
Read the server name
The server box shows the trade server your account uses. Write the name down exactly, because support needs it to find the city.
- 03
Ask Exness which city it is in
Send Exness support the server name and ask. In which city is this server? Keep the reply, it tells you which city to pick in your dashboard.
We found no city on Exness’s own pages, so we don’t name one for you.
Which Traders Proxy city should I pick? The one your Exness server is in.
In the Connect section of your dashboard, choose Change your broker’s city. Pick the city Exness gave you, then choose Use this city. Your four values stay the same, so there is nothing to change in MetaTrader.
Our server cities lists where we are. If Exness names a city we don’t list, pick the nearest one we do.
If you are not sure, pick your best guess and test it. You can switch in your dashboard, and we never move you without asking. Restart MetaTrader to move an open connection to the new city at once.
What does a server in your broker’s city change? Lost pieces are replaced locally.
When you click Buy, your order crosses the internet to your broker as small pieces of data. If the internet loses a piece, your computer sends it again and everything behind it waits. In a busy moment, that wait can delay an order or trigger a disconnect, and distance makes it longer.
Our server in your broker’s city puts the port your platform uses first when a server is busy and clears dead sockets so your platform can reconnect. Any lost piece is replaced locally, so your order waits on a short connection.
This helps only if you picked your broker’s city. We don’t promise lower ping. Distance sets the minimum. Time it yourself with our connection check.
How do I connect MetaTrader through our server? Enter four values.
Four steps in MetaTrader
- 01
Copy the four values
In your dashboard, pick the server nearest you under Connect. Then open Your values for your platform, choose the MT4 or MT5 tab and copy the rows. The login and password belong to Traders Proxy, so you never share your Exness login with us.
- 02
Open the proxy setting
In MetaTrader 4 or 5, choose Tools, then Options. Open the Server tab, tick Enable proxy server, then choose Proxy. This setting changes MetaTrader only, not the rest of your computer.
- 03
Enter the values
Choose
SOCKS5as the type, as the Type row in your dashboard shows. MetaTrader 5 takes the server and port in one box, with a colon between them. In MetaTrader 4, enter them as the box asks. - 04
Test it and save
Choose Test, then OK. If the terminal does not reconnect, close it and open it again. Check that prices are moving in Market Watch, so you know it works before you trade.
Can’t find the Proxy button? Some broker-branded terminals may hide it, so try the standard MetaQuotes build. Each platform’s maker decides which of its connections use its proxy setting.
Why set it up before the next news release? That is when you can compare it.
The wait after lost data shows up in busy sessions, and most weeks bring a big news release. Set up now and you can compare when it counts. Setup is four values and nothing to install. If your platform can’t connect through us and support can’t fix it, we refund your first payment within 7 days on a monthly plan, or 14 days on a yearly plan or Founder 50. This doesn’t affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
What else do Exness traders ask?
Frequently asked questions
Which city should I choose for Exness?
Choose the city Exness support gives you for your account’s trade server. We found no city on Exness’s own pages, so we don’t name one.
Does a proxy change my Exness spreads or prices?
No. Exness sets your spreads and prices. A proxy only changes where your platform connects. It does not change them.
Does Traders Proxy work on a phone?
Phone apps generally have no proxy setting, and iPhone is untested. On Android, a proxy app can send MetaTrader through us. See our Android guide.

Generic or free proxies fail MetaTrader's proxy Test button
“I keep getting the message "Proxy test failed" no matter what proxy settings I try to set.”
How our system handles it. Use SOCKS5 or HTTP, whichever your platform offers. Enter our server, login and password in MetaTrader’s own Proxy window.
- Built-in
SOCKS5loginPrimary - Built-in
HTTPproxy loginSupporting
Where it stops. MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 support SOCKS5 and HTTP (not SOCKS4). A passing Test confirms the route reaches our server.
MT5's own Proxy box overwrites, empties or refuses to save what you type
“This is a bug of MT5 - because if you enter proxy in the system and EVEN if it is off, it will always force you to use the proxy entered there.”
Why a proxy does not change this. We change nothing on your computer. The server, login and password go into your platform's own Proxy setting.
- Only the app you set up is routedBoundary
Where it stops. We change nothing on your computer. If a MetaTrader 5 build fails to save its proxy dialog, we cannot repair the terminal window itself.
cTrader behind an office, school or corporate network (the case the proxy setting was made for)
“Please be advised that the connection settings are to be set as follows: Server : Your local proxy server Name/IP Port : Port of your local proxy server Protocol: Supported proxy protocol”
What our system reduces. cTrader for Windows has a proxy setting and Traders Proxy supports it over HTTP.
- Built-in
HTTPproxy loginPrimary
Where it stops. cTrader for Windows supports an HTTP proxy login in Settings > Connection. Your local network must still allow the connection to our server.
Country and ISP level blocking of MetaQuotes services (Pakistan, specific networks)
“The website works perfectly fine when using a mobile data connection (hotspot).”
What our system reduces. If a network blocks your broker's address, your platform connects to our server instead.
- Own separate connection to your brokerPrimary
Where it stops. Works only if your network lets you reach our server and does not block proxy traffic.
